How can I promote a used building supply store?
This store was set up to divert useful products from landfill sites. While we focus primarily on building supplies, we also handle other related products such as tools and machines.
We are looking for opportunities to promote the store’s products in the local community. We’re already considering an e-mail newsletter, strategic partnerships with places like hardware stores (we often have no-longer-available items), telemarketing, brochures, media interviews, and community events. We’ve had quite good success with online advertising through e-Bay, Kijiji and CraigsList and would welcome suggestions of other inexpensive online marketing initiatives. We know that our primary target market is a male do-it-yourselfer, aged 30-50 who lives within 30 km of the store. The main question is how best to reach that specific target market. Any suggestions ideas would be appreciated.
Good question. It shows a well thought out business model.
I assume the logic of your target market is ability to see and pick-up the product. If you were able to overcome these barriers your available market swells exponentially.
Perhaps web-based "e-store" with search-able index, detailed specifications, and several photos of each item. This is not that costly to set up. Once an item is shipped the computer should automatically remove it from the index.
Shipping would be at the cost of consumer. A liberal return policy would take the risk out of buying.
Be sure to get linked to and from environmental sites. Network with these groups and they will do large parts of your marketing for you.
This could really take off!
Best Wishes
Craig

How do you clean measuring instruments to remove machine shop smell?
I bought some old digital calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools. The problem is: they smell of machine shop oil. I need to use them in a clean environment. Do you have any suggestion on how to clean them without damaging them? (they cannot be immersed in liquids)
Automotive break pats cleaner works great. You can even use it to remove grease stains from vehicle seats.
No residue and no smell.

what do slaughterhouses use to slaughter animals?
id like to know what type of machines or tools they use to kill them. maybe from a website were they sell them, please anything right now will help,
well and also could you maybe help me find some inhumane things about the process of killing them?
Animals such as cattle, sheep and pigs are killed with a bolt gun - that is, a gun in which the killing agent is a slim metal rod that shoots out of the barrel into the animal’s head, then immediately retracts. This renders the animal instantly braindead - it is a very quick and humane method of killing, as the animal has no time to feel any pain. It’s only after this that its throat is slit to allow the blood to drain, except in slaughterhouses that cater to certain religious beliefs - for example, some faiths require that animals must be aware when killed in order for the people to eat the meat, meaning that they are not permitted to be ’stunned’ with the bolt before having their throats slit. In these cases, the animal is restrained in a crush-crate and its throat is slit with a very sharp knife, after which it bleeds to death. This doesn’t take as long as you might think, but there can be little doubt that animals killed in this manner experience a degree of pain and fear.
Poultry are also killed by having their throats slit, but before this is done they are rendered unconscious with an electric shock (again, except in the case of those killed for consumption by certain religious groups).

How do you construct a parakeet nestbox?
I’m planning to build a nestbox for breeding parakeets, and I would like to make the emergency door in the back be a sliding door. What type of tool/machine would I use to make the slits for it?
HUH? You can just go to the pet store and buy a premade nest for them.. Dont waste your time trying to build one. They have them at stores such at petsmart or petco.

how do i make a curving concrete curb around my grass?
how do i mix the concrete?
how do i prepare for pouring? what can i use as a border that will be flexible to pour concrete in?
how do i finish it?
how do i make different designs?
what tools will i need?
All using basic tools, no curbing machine.
mix concrete
1 shovel concrete to 3 shovels of sand approx.1 gallon of water
for curve place stakes 12" apart use 1/4" plywood and bend to the curve you want
you need a shovel,wheel barrow,hammer,screws(1 1/2"),hand trowel
after you pour concrete tap plywood with hammer so you do not get air pockets and it helps concrete settle
smooth off with hand trowel, cure with brown sugar and water
mix 1/8 brown sugar and quart of boiling water, pour over concrete after it settles after a day

Please help me with my sanding machine, I’m tool illiterate!?
Some of the sanding disks for the machine that I’m using have cloth on the back that lets me stick them right on, but others just have cardboard on the back and I don’t know how to use them with the machine. Please help!
sorry, i forgot to add, it’s a disc-sander
this is called a hook and loop system on the clothe like lined ones…If the disc on your sander has the little ribbed black pad on it it is capable of taking the cloth backed ones..if it doesnt it takes the "peel and stick" the cardboard backed ones peel off exposing a sticky coating…If the sander has the hook and loop pad on it already..do not use the adheisive ones on it ..they will not work..if this sander is brand new..then it may have both options..the hook and loop one will have the pad black looking with a peel off sheet on it too..you peel it off and stick it on the sander one time only..then the loops will stick to it..from there on out..if you prefer the adheisive ones..then the pad is ready to go if the hook and loop system isnt on it..
