what’s the common English term referring to a machine used by the police to tell whether the suspect is lying?
I want to know what the terms is used by native speakers to refer to the kind of machine that tells if a person is lying.
Of course, this machine isn’t always accurate and it was invented like several years ago?
lie detector? hope that helped!

What do you look for when buying a new/used Sewing Machine?
I am starting a little boutique store, and coming more from the angle of furniture repair. I have little sewing experience, and now I really want to learn the basics. I want a decent machine that will let me get creative. maybe with various materials…. What are the various options on a sewing machine, and what makes them valuable? I have seen $5 thrift store versions up to $400 models with digital readouts. Any buying tips?
Depends on what you want to use it for. For routine hemming, taking in a skirt with a straight stitch, making simple garments, a flat bed that can be converted into a free arm is good. With a free arm you can fit the sleeve or pants leg over it. You can get a Singer with 25 to 35 fancy stitches. If you want to learn to embroider you want a computerized machine that stores stitches. They all can use a double or triple needle that makes a pretty stitch. TV’s Nancy Zieberman has useful DVD’s on sewing basics, embroidery and quilting. Nancy comes on public TV or look up Nancy’s Notions on the Internet. Nowadays, everyone is using sergers to finish raw seams on garments. It gives the garment that professional look inside that factory garments have. They run from around $200 and up. I wouldn’t sew without one if the garment doesn’t have a lining. Other features in a sewing machine is how the bobbin fits in–does it drop in or go in in the front, does it have a self threader (good for someone with poor eye sight). You may want to check to see if it’s quiet enough. High price models such as Bernina and Pfaff can run into a $1000 or more while Singer runs about $100 to $300 or more.As for fabrics that depends on the needle and presser foot sometimes. The thinner the fabric the smaller the needle–a size 8 needle for very thin fabric and about an 11 or 14 for medium and 16 for denim.

When was the first electric sewing machine used/invented in Britain?
When did people start using electric sewing machines and when was the first one invented?
I could be wrong, but I’m sure the very first electric sewing machine was made by the Singer Sewing Machine Company of USA!
The first practical electric sewing machine introduced by Singer in 1889.

Has anyone used the MamaTens machine during labour?
Has anyone used the MamaTens machine during labour?
Would you reccommend it? If you used a different type of Tens machine during labour, what kind did you get? I would like to use the TENS machine as part of my pain relief during labour, but was wondering which type to get. Thanks for your help!
Yup - I used this during labour and it was great. I’m not the type of person that wanted to have a natural birth with no pain relief, but I went through labour with only this and 2 paracetamol!!
It was great from the very 1st contraction, but no good in the later stages when contractions were really close together, but that’s what I expected.

How Much would a electricity bill be if you used a pinball machine?
I really badly want to get a pinball machine but i have to wonder how much electricity would it use and would a electricity bill be pretty high if I were to use a pinball machine .
I assume it wont be on all of the time. I have 2 and have them turned off from 11pm-7am and they only cost about $7 a month combined. But if you don’t have them on all day it wouldn’t use much at all.

Is the thompson sub-machine gun used in combat today still?
Just wanted to know if they still use a thompson cause most sub-machine guns today are 9mm not .45cal like the thompson so I wanna know if they still use the thompson and if they don’t why dont they use it cause it packs a punch.
The ,45 caliber packs a hell of a punch, a 9mm not so much. I never hear that Thompson made anything in mm ammo, that’s usually a foreign made item.
The Thompson machine gun was not a very accurate weapon. I don’t recall it having a selection switch for semi or fully automatic. Without it you waste a lot of ammo. A weapon loaded with .45 ammo is a pretty weighty item, another reason the Thompson isn’t used any longer.

I have a New Home full Rotary sewing machine. Never used a sewing machine I need to know how to use it?
Im 21 and never used a sewing machine before. I got a machine from a friends grandmother. So i have no idea on how to use it/work it. Ive played around with it. And looked online but no real answers. It says on the side of it. NEW HOME full Rotary. Don’t know if thats the model or what. So please help. I llove doing arts and crafts and wanna learn so i can do some handbags for my neices and sisters. Thanks
. Their history is interesting @ ismacs. New Home sold out around 1940 and that company was then sold to the Japs in the ’50s.
You might just try to get a ‘generic’ manual that’ll show you how to operate that machine. Maybe a local fabric shop can help?
>> http://sewing.about.com/od/beginner1/ig/Sewing-Tools/Sewing-Machine-Manuals.htm << ;
I suppose that one is totally pumped by foot? No electricity? But the basic operation is generally the same. But to be practical, it’s probably rusty and worn out. Donate it to a museum.
Ebay has a few manuals for sale @ http://search.stores.ebay.com/sewing-machine_Manuals-Books_W0QQcatrefZC6QQsacatZ38055QQstorehubsubmitZSearch ; Maybe that’s the place to sell the machine?
