What professions are there for people who are NOT team players?
I realized with a start today that I’ve been lying to myself all my life: I really hate working in teams. As soon as somebody meddles in something I’ve started, it feels polluted to me, and I drop it.
What kind of work is there for a guy like that?
I am currently a lecturer in design, and actually an industrial designer.
My dream would be to produce ideas and sell them. That’s what designers do. Are there any other professions where that is done?
Freelancers are loners…but you could be a private tutor and have classes of 3 or 4 people per class and charge each one of them per class. You know many languages you should teach those, besides there’s nothing better like working from home. It is a really good source of income.

Robert Brunner: the man who hired Jonathan Ive… thrice!
A bit of nostalgia here. During his presentation yesterday at the Computer History Museum event on Former Apple Industrial Designers, Robert Brunner was quite prolific about the current “iconic” Apple designer, at the origin of iMac, iPod and the iPhone. Brunner was the former industrial designer at Apple, from 1987-1996, and is now founding parter of design studio Ammunition. When I die, what’s going to be on my tombstone is going to say: the guy who hired Jonathan Ive!”.
“Jonathan is a friend… he’s an amazing designer… I originally interviewed him at Lunar, when he was right out of school. I asked him to come over, he didn’t want to”.
“When I first came to Apple, I tried to hire him and he didn’t want to. Then he started a company called Tangerine [design studio] that we hired for a project… and it was again a little bit of an underwork, much like I did when I started with the company… so he did the project, came over, saw the sunshine, saw the work, did a little calculation on the pay check and decided to join in 1992 and when I left I recommended him to run the group which was probably the best recommendation I have ever made.”

Industrial Designer?
How much math is required to be an Industrial Designer? I am thinking that basic math and geometry is a big part? (I like geometry.) All those shapes and angles!
What other types of math would you do and how much would you use them?
How much calculus do you have to do?
An industrial designer actualy needs very little math, since it deals mostly with art. Just be patient, and dont get flustered when the engineers tell you that some thing you designed is unworkable, or suggests changes.
When I was in engineering school, I used to pass a diplay window at the school of industrial design on my way to the library. Some cool looking stuff, but quite a few flaws .
-A cannard type executive aircraft. The cannard configuration is more fuel efficient, unless you put the forward wing on this really cool looking pylon thingy with a lot of sharp, drag producing corners like this one. The main landing gear need to be just slightly aft of the balance point. The design could not be ballanced without adding couter weight, or radically configuring the design. Balance in aircraft is very critical. The plane sat 4. A pilot in front, and three seets across behind. I can understand the "designers reasoning, but two x two would let you reduce the cross ssectional area of the fuselage (drag again).
The point is learn some basic engineering as you go. Learning a lot of math will only help if you decide to actually become an engineer.
