What would an Industrial Designer do for Apple?
I want to be an Industrial designer for Apple…. what would they do exactly? And how much would the pay be… I want to go to SCAD for Industrial Design and *hopefully* intern at Apple and then go into Industrial Design for apple.
they would do industrial design… designing products, product physical interfaces, and (increasingly so) non-physical interfaces and user experiences. apple’s products are renown for their aesthetic quality and the functional implications of those aesthetics (the physical interface of the ipod, for example) and industrial designers are certainly responsible for the lion’s share of that reputation. their designers are accomplished and well educated, so as an intern you should probably expect to do a lot of production work ("grunt work" building stuff that other people design).

Do you have to know how to draw to be an industrial designer?
I am really looking in to going to school to become an industrial designer. I have done a pretty good bit of research on the job title and I keep coming up with different answers on drawing. I know i will have to do a pretty good amount of drawing if I become one. I guess what i am asking is, is it a skill i need to have or one that with practice and guidance can be taught? I am already pretty decent at designing on a computer…….I am asking about pen, paper drawing….
You’ll be surprised by how quickly you can learn how to draw with practice, especially when you’re trying to describe an idea, but the answer is no, although it’s extremely useful and preferable.
Quick sketches are just as sufficient in describing preliminary ideas, especially when backed up with CAD or other computer design tools.

Were you born to design? (A general question for all u architects, industrial and other designers out there)?
I was recently reading an article on the relationship between one’s birth order and their education and professional successes. The article implied that many things including personality and range of success can be greatly effected by the order in which you are born.
This lead me to wonder, is a love of design something an individual is born with or is it something the pick up in their youth? Many things influence us as we grow from our parents personal interests to new fashions and the media. However it is true that some of us have a particularly sharp eye for great design. Take the talents of such great architects as Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry - can their level of design talent be taught or was it simply apart of their genetic make-up at birth?
When considering this, also analyse your own design traits - what comes easy for you and what doesn’t. Were you born to be a designer or did you just fall in love with the field?
I have always enjoyed design. My birth order was third out of five children to a mother who was an artist, musician and writer. She had a college degree in Psychology but preferred to write. She actively promoted creativity while I was growing up. We didn’t play toys as much as we drew and colored endlesss pages of original art.
I enthusiastically pursued art, mathematics, and music during high school, but majored in art when I attended college.
Some believe in innate talent. I was told by relatives that I was artistic at an early age. My older brother who is a writer, could draw pictures at the age of one. My sister was a poet, my other sister and brother are also writers. All of us have artistic talents as well.
My great uncle was an artist and my grandfather was a fresco painter. My great aunt was a musician who played several instruments. My mother composed her own music and played piano. My father was a jazz pianist who played trombone, trumpet and clarinet.
Where does this all come from? Environment plays a significant part of any creative although some designers had no artistic influence in the home whatsoever.
I think to some extent I was born with the capability to design more than the capability to dissect an animal. I can see patterns in my head, I can visualize 3 dimensions easily, etc.
Design comes to me like walking or breathing. I am amazed when I meet someone who acts like design is rocket science times ten.
Passion plays a part. I enjoy design. I like the visual satisfaction it brings.
I don’t understand why people invest years of schooling to be a designer that don’t even like the field. They do it for the money alone.
Would I dissect animals for a living because the money is good?
I would go the starving artist route first.

A question about INDUSTRIAL DESIGNING?
Hi, I was wondering what major should I take to become an Industrial
designer? Because I checked with many schools but they don’t offer
industrial design. So I was wondering if I could major in art or some
other major such as architecture and still be able to become an
industrial designer?
I’m an interior architect. For industrial designing, maybe you can try majoring interior architecture. But it depends on what field you want to focus in. Alternatively, you can also try doing Spatial design, there are master courses for that.
Honestly, I think what is most important is that you have a great portfolio and the skills needed in what you want to do, sometimes, even without a degree you can still get into a job you desire with experience and with your portfolio. Good luck!

What designers are part of the Apple Industrial Design Group?
I know they must have a ton of graphic and web designers in there but I was wondering who actually design their Ipods and Macs and so on. If you can help me thanks!

I think Jony Ive has something to do with all, the design concepts.
hes apples senior vice president on the design part of apple inc
watch this video it explains all about how the new aluminum macbooks where designed, and Jony Ive talks in the video too.
