why were interchangeable parts and improved machine tools extremely important in the growth of american…….?
of american manufacturing?
Industry before interchangeable parts was made up of specific workers putting whatever pieces by hand. The process to obtain all these parts was time consuming and inefficient in producing large quantities quickly. The ability to create machines even more quickly in turn let industry progress quickly as well.

Every time someone uses a cancelled credit card to buy parking tickets from a machine is the company notified?
whenever i go to downtown vancouver homeless people are trying to sell me parking tickets they buy from automated machines using stolen (then cancelled) cards. are the card companies able to track these transactions once a card is cancelled? can the police catch these people?
It’s difficult to catch a specific person using a credit card at a machine unless there are video cameras. Even then, it’s so little money, it’s probably not worth the credit card company’s time.

Which is better web designing courses?? or Industrial automation?
I am Electrical engineering student. I am interested in doing a course in either web designing or Industrial automation. Which is better for my future in terms of jobs and salary? I am interested in both and I am struggling to make a choice..please help me…
I have a middle way for that.Get as much info on Electrical Engg. as possible & create a website on that subject. It should contain latest stuff from your industry(electrical engg.). Over the period of time you will start earning a handsome income from this website. And you don’t have to devote your full time for it. You can manage this on part time basis.

Were you born to design? (A general question for all u architects, industrial and other designers out there)?
I was recently reading an article on the relationship between one’s birth order and their education and professional successes. The article implied that many things including personality and range of success can be greatly effected by the order in which you are born.
This lead me to wonder, is a love of design something an individual is born with or is it something the pick up in their youth? Many things influence us as we grow from our parents personal interests to new fashions and the media. However it is true that some of us have a particularly sharp eye for great design. Take the talents of such great architects as Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry - can their level of design talent be taught or was it simply apart of their genetic make-up at birth?
When considering this, also analyse your own design traits - what comes easy for you and what doesn’t. Were you born to be a designer or did you just fall in love with the field?
I have always enjoyed design. My birth order was third out of five children to a mother who was an artist, musician and writer. She had a college degree in Psychology but preferred to write. She actively promoted creativity while I was growing up. We didn’t play toys as much as we drew and colored endlesss pages of original art.
I enthusiastically pursued art, mathematics, and music during high school, but majored in art when I attended college.
Some believe in innate talent. I was told by relatives that I was artistic at an early age. My older brother who is a writer, could draw pictures at the age of one. My sister was a poet, my other sister and brother are also writers. All of us have artistic talents as well.
My great uncle was an artist and my grandfather was a fresco painter. My great aunt was a musician who played several instruments. My mother composed her own music and played piano. My father was a jazz pianist who played trombone, trumpet and clarinet.
Where does this all come from? Environment plays a significant part of any creative although some designers had no artistic influence in the home whatsoever.
I think to some extent I was born with the capability to design more than the capability to dissect an animal. I can see patterns in my head, I can visualize 3 dimensions easily, etc.
Design comes to me like walking or breathing. I am amazed when I meet someone who acts like design is rocket science times ten.
Passion plays a part. I enjoy design. I like the visual satisfaction it brings.
I don’t understand why people invest years of schooling to be a designer that don’t even like the field. They do it for the money alone.
Would I dissect animals for a living because the money is good?
I would go the starving artist route first.

•What is an embedded device, and what sorts of office machinery have them?
What is an embedded device, and what sorts of office machinery have them?
A device that has a computer in it (microwave oven, car, mp3 player) is an embedded device. Office machinery? Printers, copiers, alarms (fire, burglar). If you have to use a swipe card to "punch in" or open doors, there’s a computer behind that (it may be embedded, it may be just a PC.) Your phone system almost definitely has at least one embedded computer.

What is that little machine/tool orthodontists use to file teeth?
Today I had an ortho appointment and she filed down in between a couple of my bottom teeth. She used a tool, and I’m trying to find out what it is called (so I can GoogleImage-it and find a picture) because I’m writing about it in my blog :] (Yes, a braces blog).
So if you’re a dentist, orthodontist, or a dental assistant, do you know which tool I’m talking about?
Thanks in advance :]
It is basically a disc on a mandrel that is used on a handpiece.

Industrial Design or Product Development?
Hey everyone
I am currently working in an Automotive industry. i did my B.tech in Mechanical engineering.
I have decided to do M.S abroad in Product development. But i m also interested in Industrial design. But i would like to know the difference in job profile with these two courses. and which one would be a better option for an engineer. Is industrial design preferable only for Arts students?
And in addition, would it be good to do M.S in the UK? or would countries like Sweden or Germany be better?
Thanks in advance for ur valuable reply.. Mush appreciated…
Personally, I feel that industrial design ties in more specifically with mechanical engineering than product development (which can be a very wide field).
Given that you’re in the automotive industry, industrial design (which involves everything from CAD to machine design) will be more relevant.
Go for a degree from either US or Germany.

What software and/or physical tools to computer technicians use to recover crashed hard drive data?
when it is a mechanical failure and they need to remove the disk inside the drive. And is there a special machine they use to hook up that hard drive disk to?
I have most of the software for recovering data, but nothing to assist me if the hard drive fails mechanically.
Yes, there is a machine that they use to recover some stuff. Also they have to try and clean the drive so they don’t get any failures as well. If you want to try and recovery this at home you will have to pay a good sum of money for the programs.
